Life form. Lichenized fungus.
Description. Thallus crustose, ecorticate; surface smooth to uneven, whitish. Vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont Trentepohlia alga. Ascomata perithecia, black, solitary, 0.3-0.5 mm diam., prominent, hemispherical; ostiole apical. Hamathecium hyaline, clear. Asci clavate, 8-spored; ascospores hyaline, fusiform-ellipsoid, 21-25 x 6-9 μm, 3-septate, lumina sometimes with yellow oil, K/I-, wall smooth.
Chemistry. Spot tests negative; no substances detected by TLC.
Substrate and habitat. Corticolous on hardwood trees.
Distribution. Pantropical; in North Carolina found in the Coastal Plain ecoregion.
