Tuckerman 85 (H-NYL, lectotype). Life form. Lichenized fungus. Description. Thallus crustose, ecorticate; surface smooth to uneven, whitish gray. Vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont Trentepohlia alga. Ascomata perithecia, black, solitary to sometimes confluent, 0.3-0.5 mm diam., erumpent; ostiole apical. Hamathecium hyaline, clear; paraphyses sparse. Asci clavate, 8-spored; ascospores hyaline, fusiform, 15-20 x 5-7 μm, 3-septate, lumina rectangular or slightly rounded, wall smooth. Chemistry. Spot tests negative; no substances detected by TLC. Substrate and habitat. Corticolous on hardwood trees. Distribution. Pantropical, subtropical; in North Carolina found in the Coastal Plain ecoregion. Literature Aptroot, A. & R.
