Description. Lichenized fungus.
Thallus crustose, thin, verrucose, ashy green or tan; vegetative diaspores absent; photobiont Trentepohlia alga. Ascomata perithecia embedded in hemispherical thalline warts, 0.3-0.7 mm diam. Hamathecium of paraphyses, usually unbranched; hymenial gel nonamyloid (I-, K/I-). Asci clavate-cylindrical, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, acicular-fusiform with one end long-tapered, 6-14-celled, 65-90 × 10–12 μm. Pycnidia not reported.
Chemistry. Not reported.
Substrate and Habitat. On bark of hardwood trees, in forests.
Distribution. Eastern North America; in North Carolina found throughout.
