Thallus foliose, the lobes small, to 30 mm long, 12 mm broad, the edges somewhat crisped and turned up, upper side smooth, brown; underside pale at the edges, dark centrally, covered with a fine tomentum and with scattered cyphellae, attached by rhizinae. Apothecia and pycnidia not known. Upper and lower cortices paraplectenchymatous, 25-40 μ thick; medulla lax, algae Nostoc; rhizinae simple or branched.

This species grows among mosses and on hummocks in both dry and moist types of tundras. It is an amphi-Beringian species, known from Siberia, Kamchatka, and in North America from Alaska east as far as Baffin Island.
