Thallus: crustose, epiphloedal, continuous to rimose, c. 125 µm thick surface: gray Ascomata: lirelliform, 0.5-0.9 x 0.3-0.6 mm in diam., rarely rounded, 0.2-0.8 mm in diam., immersed but then adnate, not constricted at base, simple or rarely forked, isolated or aggregated into groups disc: plane or slightly convex, whitish pruinose exciple: thin, entire, sometimes sinuous, not elevated above disc, persistent hymenium: hyaline, 65-80 µm tall, I+ pale red; paraphysoids: branched and anastomosing, c. 1.5 µm thick, the apical cells little enlarged, reticulate to coralloid branched, included in a brown gelatinous matrix subhymenium: pale brown, 30-40 µm thick asci: clavate, 60-85 x 16-20 µm, with differentiated ring, 8-spored ascospores: hyaline, becoming brown only when old, transversely 5(-6)-septate (with the central cell largest), oblong-ovoid, straight, 20-26(-30) x 6-7.5(-8) µm; wall: thin, sometimes +constricted at the central septum, with a coasrse, gelatinous sheath Pycnidia: immersed in thallus, punctiform, subglobose, 150 µm high, 100 µm wide; wall: 15-20 µm thick, dark brown, entire conidia: hyaline, bacilliform, straight, 4-5 x 1-1.2 µm Spot tests: thallus K- or K+ orange, C-, KC-, P- Secondary substances: none detected. Substrate and ecology: on bark World distribution: Europe and western North America (California) Sonoran distribution: southern California. Note: The description above is based on L. aggregata.
