Global occurrence: Africa (incl Madagascar) | Eurasia – Europe | Americas – North America (incl Mexico) | Arctic.  Substrate: wood – dead, living | bark, cork, plant surface – trunks, branches, twigs.  Life habit: lichenized (mutualistic with algal photobionts).
