Description. Lichenized fungus.
Thallus thin, whitish. Ascomata perithecia with apical ostioles, solitary, 0.4–0.6 mm diam., erumpent to prominent, hemispherical to flattened; ostiole minute, indicated by whitish area. Wall lacking below, often surrounded by a gray ring. Asci mostly narrowly obovate, rarely almost cylindrical, (85–)100–125 × 17–22 μm. Ascospores 4–8 per ascus, biseriate, sub-biseriate or almost uniseriate, narrowly ovate, 1-septate, lower cell occasionally slightly constricted in the middle; perispore well developed, 20–30 × 7–11 μm. Pycnidia often present; conidia rod-like, 4–5 × 1 μm.
Chemistry. Thallus and ascomata UV−, K−. TLC: no substances detected.
Substrate and Habitat. On thin bark of hardwood trees in forests.
Distribution. Pantropical; in North Carolina throughout.
