TYPE. NEW CALEDONIA. “Ad cortices (Cathae undulatae, cupaniae uniglandulosae?) legit Dr. Pancher.” (Nylander 1868); Pancher s.n. (H-NYL 7782, holotype).
Description. Life form: lichenized fungus.
Thallus crustose, yellow-olive, corticate; vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont trenteophlioid alga. Ascomata lirellae, sessile, lacking a thalline margin, short to elongate, sparsely to irregularly branched (striatula-morph); labia convergent, entire, black, not pruinose, striate; disk concealed. Exciple apically carbonized; hymenium clear. Asci 8-spored; ascospores hyaline, transversely 5-7-septate, 20-30 × 6-8 μm.
Chemistry. No substances detected by TLC.
Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous on hardwood trees.
Distribution. Pantropical, north into eastern North America; in North Carolina found in Coastal Plain and Blue Ridge ecoregions.
