TYPE. “Chile, Corral, an altem Holz, leg. Stockert (hb. W)” Nadvornik (1942). CHILE. Corral, on old wood, Stockert s.n. (W, holotype; BRA, isotype)

Life form. Lichenized fungus.

Thallus crustose, granular-sorediate, grayish; granules 0.04-0.15 mm daim., ecorticate. Photobiont trebouxioid alga. Ascomata stalked apothecia, 1.0-1.5 mm tall; stalk 0.04-0.11 mm thick; stalk and capitulum gray pruinose. Capitulum spherical, 0.25-0.4 mm diam. Exciple poorly developed, surrounding the base of the capitulum and extending to form the stalk. Asci variable, without a stipe, 8-spored, uni- or biseriate, 14-19 x 2-3 μm; ascospores 1-celled, globose, 3.2-4.5 μm, smooth or with regular fissures.

Chemistry. Thallus PD+ yellowish; barbatic and obtusatic acids.

Substrate and Habitat. On bark and wood in humid forests.

Distribution. Africa, Europe and North and South America; in North Carolina found in the Blue Ridge ecoregion.
