Nash, T.H., Ryan, B.D., Gries, C., Bungartz, F., (eds.) 2004. Lichen Flora of the Greater Sonoran Desert Region. Vol 2.
Pycnidia: immersed to erumpent, black, subglobose, (80-)100-175(-200) µm in diam.; wall: composed of dark brown cells 5-10 x 3-7 µm in diam. conidiogenous cells: (5)6-8(-11) x (2-)2.5-4 µm conidia: brown to dark brown, simple, subglobose, basally truncate, almost smooth to verruculose, (2.5-)3-4.5(-6) µm. Hosts: Caloplaca, Teloschistes and Xanthoria species, also reported from Cetrelia, Heterodermia, Melanelia, Physcia and Tuckermannopsis World distribution: Europe, Macaronesia, North and South America Sonoran distribution: once collected in Sonora. Notes: Lichenoconium xanthoriae is a relatively rare species, possibly confined to Teloschistaceae, but also mentioned from several other genera. The pycnidia are larger than those of all other Lichenoconium species known from the Sonoran region.
