Thallus ashy gray, small, orbicular, radiate-areolate, areolae convex, narrow, to 0.2 mm broad, branching, and toward the periphery, over a dark, ashy hypothallus, the sides of the radiating lobes darker than the centers. Apothecia small, 0.3-0.4 mm broad, single in areolae, raised above thallus; thalloid margin entire and elevated; thalloid exciple 1+ blue turning reddish; disk black, epruinose, to 0.2 mm broad; hypothecium cloudy; epihymenium brownish, HC1+ green; hymenium 100-110 µm, inspersed, 1+ blue; paraphyses slender, tips slightly moniliform to 2.5 /xm thick; spores 8, small, 12-18 x 7-10/xm.
Reactions: margin of fertile verrucae with K+ pale yellow diffusion, 1+ blue turning red.
Contents: not known.
This species grows on acid rocks. It is too rare to be able to state a definite range, as it is known only from few records for northeastern Greenland, Alaska, and the eastern Canadian Arctic.
