TYPE. FINLAND. “Ad corticem Alni in Tiirismaa in Hollola” (Vainio 1927).

Description. Life form: borderline lichen.

Thallus thin, pale or whitish green. Algal associate Trentepohlia. Ascomata stalked apothecia, 0.4-0.7 mm tall, black; capitulum lenticular, black, 0.1-0.3 mm diam.; stalk 0.04-0.07 mm diam., internally yellowish-red. Epithecium thin, medium brown; hypothecium 70-95 µm high, hyaline to yellowish brown, darker toward base. Asci 31-37 x 3.0-3.5 µm with a thickened apex with a narrow canal; ascospores brown, ellipsoid with rounded ends, 7-9 × 3-3.5 µm, minutely ornamented.

Chemistry. Ascomatal stalk pigments K+ persistent red.

Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous on hardwood and coniferous trees.

Distribution. Pantemperate; in North Carolina found in the Blue Ridge ecoregion.
