TYPE. GUINEA. “ad corticem Uvariae.” (Acharius 1814) s. coll. (H H-ACH 0629, holotype; UPS BOT L-000497 and L-000498, isotypes).

Description. Lichenized fungus.

Thallus crustose, continuous, thin, smooth, pale greenish gray to whitish; vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont Trentepohlia alga. Ascomata lirellate, partly immersed, curved and flexuous, branched, 1-5 x 0.2-0.4 mm. Disk closed; labia black, 1-3 striate; exciple laterally to entirely carbonized; hymenium hyaline, clear. Asci clavate, 8-spored. Ascospores colorless, ellipsoid, 6-15-septate, 35-52 x 7-10 μm.

Chemistry. Spot tests all negative, secondary metabolites not detected.

Substrate and Habitat. On smooth bark of hardwood trees, in hardwood and mixed forests.

Distribution. Pantropical; in North Carolina throughout with most records from the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions.
