Life habit: lichenized Thallus: crustose, cottony surface: dull, pale lime-green photobiont: primary one a coccoid, green alga, secondary one absent Ascomata: absent Conidiomata: absent Secondary substances: lesdainin, and other terpenoids Geography: Europe, Africa (Canary Islands), North America, and Asia Substrate: muscicolous on rock, often limestone, more rarely on naked rock and on soil; usually in shaded sites such as under overhangs and in clefts. Notes: Botryolepraria is a recent segregate of Lepraria from which it appears not be closely related (Ekman and Tønsberg 2002).
