Life form. Lichenized fungus
Description.Thallus crustose, thin up to 0.3 mm thick, verruculose-rimose, dispersed to continuous, dull, bluish green to bluish grey. Vegetative diaspores farinose soredia, covering thallus entirely. Photobiont chlorococcoid alga. Ascomata biatorine apothecia, common, sessile, 0.1–0.3 mm diam.; disk pinkish (turning yellowish in herbarium), concave to convex; rim white, +/- regular, wavy, finally excluded. Exciple cellular, hyaline; epithecium hyaline; hymenium hyaline, 30-50 µm high, I+ blue; hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses numerous, simple or branched and anastomosing above, 0.5-1 µm thick at base, tips expanded to 2 µm. Asci clavate, 8-spored, with K/I+ blue apical dome with a darker blue, tubular ring structure. Ascospores 9.5–14 (–16) × 3.5–7 µm, hyaline, 1-septate, ovoid to ovoid-cylindrical, often slightly constricted at the septum and sometimes sole-shaped. Conidiomata pycnidia, usually present, whitish, 80–150 µm diam., bottle-shaped with a short neck and gaping ostiole; conidia pyriform, 3–4 × 1.3–1.7 µm.
Chemistry. Spot tests negative; no secondary metabolites detected.
Substrate and habitat. Foliicolous and corticolous on leaves and twigs of evergreen and hardwood trees in humid forests.
Distribution. Cosmopolitan; in North Carolina found in the Blue Ridge and Coastal Plains ecoregions, to be thrroughout the state).
