Thompson, J., 1997. American Arctic Lichens: The Microlichens.
Thallus pale ashy, thin at circumference, there smooth and continuous, with black hypothallus line delineating it, toward the center, radiate-areolate; areolae convex, elongate radially, and with transverse cracks; cortex paraplectenchymatous, not vertically arranged. Apothecia quite sessile, in raised areolae with a thick, thalloid margin; thalloid margin 1+ blue; proper exciple indistinct; hypothecium cellular with greenish yellow 1+ reaction, of vertical hyphae; epiphymenium dark olive-green and K+ reddish brown; hymenium 110-130 µm; paraphyses 2 µm, tips to 3-4 µm and moniliform; spores 8, 12-17 x 10-12 µm. Conidia 16-17.5 µm (according to Lynge 1940).
Reactions: K-, C-, P-, I-; cortex of margin 1+ blue.
This species grows on acid rocks. It is known from Novaya Zemlya (where it was called Lecanora lyngei by Zahlbruckner (1928)) and from northeastern Greenland. Cape Hershel. As it may turn up in Canada, this rare species is here included.
This species resembles A. plicigera, but the cortex is paraplectenchymatous instead of vertical, and the margin is 1+ instead of 1-; also, the conidia are shorter.
