Crust very thin, continuous, unequal or almost obsolete, gray or somewhat white, KOH-. Apothecia commonly close together, sessile, constricted base, 0.5-1 mm broad, disc plane or at last convex, blackish or black, opaque, marginminutely thin, initially paler, yellow or cinnamon, at least eventually nearly concolourous. Exciple marginal part enfolding gonidia, which are moderately numerous (globose, diam. up to 10 µ), lower cortex minutely thick, very thin above; subhymenium hyaline, formed from crowded, irregular, woven together, pachydermatous, central part of exciple full of gonidia. Hymenium (thecium) 70-80 µ tall, reddish above, I persistently becoming blue, KOH chiefly rose-violet above. Paraphyses simple, c. 1.5 µ thick, slightly thick above, not or indistinctly moniliform. Asci inflated-clavate, apical membrane thickened. Spores 8, oblong or ellipsoid-oblong, 10-13 µ long, 4-5 µ thick, septum scarcely 1/3 long.
