Notes: Because Trematosphaeriopsis so far is a monotypic genus, a generic description would simply recapitulate the specific description given below. The closest relative to Trematosphaeriopsis is probably Cercidospora, with which it has in common the almost entirely unpigmented ascoma wall of a textura intricata, the simple interthecial filaments, the subcylindrical fissitunicate asci, and the septate hyaline ascospores. However, the ascomata of Cercidospora species contain a bluish green pigment in the ostiolar region of the ascoma wall, which makes the ascomata visible under a hand lens or dissecting microscope as black dots, and the perispore of Cercidospora ascospores does not condense into warts.
