Description. Life form: lichenized fungus.
Thallus foliose, 3-6 cm diam.; lobes 5-10 mm wide, sometimes lobulate. Upper surface grey-green or olive to yellowish-green, occasionally becoming ridged, lobes dotted with white pseudocyphellae. Vegetative propagules soredia, coarse and often becoming secondarily partly corticated and then forming elaborate, isidiomorphs or small laciniae-like, sub-erect structures. Lower surface black with paler margins. Apothecia and pycnidia not reported in British material.
Substrate and Habitat. On hardwood trees in old growth forests.
Distribution. Cosmopolitan; in North Carolina found in the Blue Ridge ecoregion.
