The Bolus Herbarium was established in 1865 and houses over 350 000 dried specimens of vascular plants, ferns, mosses, algae, and lichens. The lichen collection is comprised of approximately 5000 dried specimens of over 700 taxa collected mostly from the Western Cape province of South Africa.
