Abstract: Taxa recorded from 13 rocky river / creek sites in the Cape Fear and Neuse river basins in the Piedmont ecoregion of central North Carolina, USA. Lichens were found to be organized into three zoned communities, from lower to upper: fluvial mesic, fluvial xeric, and riparian, the latter of which are separated by a trim line representing the high flood zone. Fluvial lichen communities are adapted to intermittent inundation and exposure.
