I.Goose Bay, on a bird’s bone.
Thallus very thin, but distinct, dark, subcontinuous, rugulose.
Perithecia dispersed, lower half thalline or immersed in substrate, very minute, diam. 0.1-0.13 mm, globose, not impressed towards the ostiole, black, smooth, neat. Perithecia surrounded by thick margin, exciple adnate and divergent below, inserted, pale brownish grey. Spores 8, biseriate, minute, cylindrical-oblong, straight to almost straight, 8-9 X 2.5-3(-3.5) µ.
Nucleus J red
Its thin thallus and very small perithecia suggest a relationship to Verrucaria acrotella, but it is sufficiently distinct by its very small oblong spores.Its excipulum is so pale brown that it is quite as probably that it should be referred to the section leucobasis of VAINIO.
