Thallus areolate, the areolae to 0.5 mm broad, thin, contiguous to more or less discrete, flat or becoming convex, pale ashy gray covered with a necral layer; hypothallus not distinct. Apothecia on the areolae, more or less raised, to 0.7 mm broad; margin at first thick and entire, later disappearing; exciple reddish brown; disk flat or becoming very convex, black, scabrid; hypothecium brownish red; epithecium blue-black; hymenium 100-110 µm, lower part pale green-blue, upper part blue-black; paraphyses coherent, distinctly clavate; spores 6-8, 3-septate becoming submuriform with few cells, hyaline, with halo, 13-16 x 8-9 µm.
This species grows on acid rocks. It was described from Disko, western Greenland. Dix (1956) reported a specimen from Labrador determined by Dodge as this species, and I have seen a specimen from Bering Island determined by Nylander as Lecidea postuma (H).
