Thallus white, thin, deeply chinky-areolate to dispersed, areolae minute, to 0.25 mm broad, flat to depressed-convex, smooth, lacking soredia or isidia. Apothecia small, to 0.3 mm broad, round; exciple dark; disk flat, with persistent margin; hypothecium reddish brown; epithecium blue-brown; paraphyses coherent, branched, articulated, tips scarcely thickened; asci broadly clavate; spores 13-20 x 7.5-11 μm.
Reactions: K—, 1+ blue; hymenium 1+ deep blue, the upper part pale violet with KOH.
This species is found growing on sandstone and granite. It is a rare species known from the type locality on Disko Island, Greenland, and on northern Baffin Island.
