Life habit: not lichenized Thallus: ± white photobiont: absent Ascomata: lirellate and branched, erumpent, 0.2-1.3 mm wide disc: black, often covered with dead bark cells, flat to slightly convex, pruinose epihymenium: olivaceous brown, 5-15 µm thick; paraphysoidal tips: with distinct pigment caps, 2-3 µm thick, gel hyaline, with granules hymenium: hyaline, 40-60 µm tall; subhymenium: hyaline, 15-30 µm thick asci: broadly clavate to ovoid, without distinct stipe, 40-55 x 21-26 µm, 8-spored ascospores: persistently hyaline, muriform, 5-6 transverse and 0-2 longitudinal septa (septa not incised), ovoid, 16-18 x 6-8 µm, with an epispore Pycnidia: 0.06-0.1 mm wide; wall: olivaceous brown conidia: filiform, slightly curved, 7-9 x 1 µm Chemical reactions: ascomatal gels I+ red, KI+ blue; ascus tholus with KI+ elongated ring-structure.
