Ecology: Terricolous or bryophytic (over rocks and in heath at low and high elevations); growing sun-exposed; substrate non-calciferous. Thallus: Branches caespitose. Primary Thallus: Evanescent. Secondary Thallus: Present, of indeterminate growth; stipe 40-60 mm high, .4-2.5-(4) mm wide, lime green or brown (very pale yellowish green (121) to pale brown ("pale orange-yellow," 73,)), mottled or tainted brown, corticate (in patches) or not corticate (between areoles), with intact or perforated wall. Upper Surface: Areolated (with flat, smooth, irregular areoles). Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form. Conidiomata: Formed on podetia. Secondary Metabolites: 4-O-methylcryptochlorophaeic acid, hypothamnolic acid, merochlorophaeic acid, and squamatic acid, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsides. Spot Tests: Upper surface: K + bright yellow (citrine, lemon) or + deep yellow, C –, PD –.
