Thallus crustose, rimose-areolate-cracked, creamy-orange; medulla I+ or I-; isidia and soredia absent; photobiont green, chlorococcoid. Ascomata apothecia, scattered, innate, rather large, 0.5-1.5(-3) mm diam.; disc dark brown without a distinct true margin. True exciple ± totally escluded. Hymenium 80-150 µm tall, I+ blue; hamathecium of paraphyses, septate, branched-anastomosing, netted, slightly swollen at apices; epihymenium pale brown. Hypothecium upper part (subhymenium) colourless, otherwise dark brown to brown-black, hyphae irregularly arranged. Asci 8-spored, clavate to subcylindrical, Porpidia-type; ascospores simple, typically 22-25 µm long, ± ellipsoid; perispore well-developed, 2-7 µm thick. Conidiomata pycnidia, often present. Conidiogenous cells elongate, bottle-shaped, in a single layer; conidia filliform.
Chemistry: Norstictic or confuentic acids.
Ecology: mainly on ±inundated, siliceous, rocks.
Distribution: two species: one from cool-temperate South America, the other from Campbell Island, New Zealand.
Remarks: Systematic position within Lecideaceae uncertain.
