old aspen grove on gently sloping south shore of small lake
live aspen fallen into pond
thin white crust, scattered to clustered apothecia starting perithecioid soon discose and slightly constricted, disk gray-green peppered with ome black pigment epruinose matte, rims white waxy very thick and soon deeply cracked, rims and disks K- C+o KC+o strong, epihymenium brown with fine ~brown granules inspersed between paraphyses tips POL+ clearing in K but not dissolving, hymenium hyaline clear ~60-70um, amphithecium with thick cortex compressed vertically cortex 40um above to 50um below filled with fine granules above and laterally strongly POL+ not clearing in K, large crystals scattered below amphithecium, algal layer continuous and thin within amphithecium leaving narrow layer between subhymenium and algal layer without algae, spores 8 per ascus ~broadly ellipsoid 10-11x5-6um with visible wall in K
