Notes:
thallus thick, areolate, pale gray, K+y C- KC+y/o stronger UV-; medulla white, thick; areoles strongly irregularly bullate; prothallus inapparent; apothecia black, immersed initially, becoming strongly stipitate; margin thalline, thick, persistent, becoming black from inside out, mostly shiny; disk black, mostly shiny; epihymenium green-black, hiding POL+ granules, becoming bright green and clear in K; hymenium ~65um, clear; amphithecium filled with fine and coarse POL+ granules, coarse granules not clearing in K; cortex filled with brown POL+ granules obscuring it, clearing in K, ~30-35um at top to ~40um below; spores 8 per ascus, 12.5-14.5(17)x(6.5)7-8 Q=1.55-2.1(2.6) N=10, distinct walls; pycnidia immersed in areoles, conspicuous shiny black ostiole visible, subglobose being squashed a bit vertically thus wider than tall; conidia filiform, curved to S-shaped, 15-20um averaging 17-18um; TLC atranorin + psoromic + trace unknown + zeorin? + fatty acid (JPH plate 31.26 solvent C on 20171027)
