thallus inconspicuous; apothecia sessile from the first, constricted, rather densely scattered; rims strongly white pruinose outside to less pruinose and grayish inside, strongly cracked, thick, prominent, persistent; disk brown, rough, ~pruinose; rims K- C- KC- P-; medulla yellowish in places, K- C+o KC+o P-; epihymenium red-brown, clear but with thick insoluble epipsamma on top, pigment diffusing deep into hymenium, paler to almost hyaline in K; hymenium ~60-70um, clear; amphithecium filled with algae, strongly POL+ only partly clearing in K; cortex indistinct, ~30-60um, strongly grayish granular POL+ K-; paraphyses slender, capitate, sometimes branched at tips, to ~4-5um at top; asci lecanora-type, ~50-60x12-15um; spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, ~11-12x7-8um
