thallus of scattered to contiguous strongly bullate to subglobose white to beige-yellowish areoles, cortex K+y C+y KC+y/o P+y/o all strong UV-, algae trebouxioid ~large K/I+ violet, apothecia strongly raised to substipitate, disk gray to blackish with thin white pruina (C+o), rims thalline thick persistent, epihymenium dark POL+ clearing completely in K, hymenium ~50-70um clear hyaline, amphithecium with ~20-30um distinct cortex thickening to up to 70um below POL+ clearing completely in K filled with large algae, asci ~lecanora-type (hard to see), spores 8 per ascus simple hyaline ellipsoid smooth ~12-14x7-8um
