Associated Species: Candelariella vitellina, Physcia dubia, Protoparmeliopsis muralis, Rhizocarpon bolanderi, Umbilicaria phaea
Notes: shiny pale yellowish-brown to very dark reddish-brown squamulose to areolate crust, lower surface putch black throughout except near margins, thick stipe present, cortex no epinecral layer outer part brown ~30-40um total POL+ C+r strong, medulla POL+ weaker than cortex, epihymenium dark red-brown POL+, hymenium ~120um ~clear hyaline with interascal plectenchyma conspicous, algal layer continuous feathering into medulla but thin or spotty under apothecia, paraphyses 2um thick with conspicuously thickened tips sometimes submoniliform, spores many per ascus ~3-4x1-1.5um or longer?
