Notes: thallus subsquamulose-areolate over black prothallus; areoles shiny pale brownish yellow; cortex K+o in section C+p KC+r P+y/o bleeding a bit, ~40um, brown granular, no epinecral layer apparent in water but apparent in K (expanding to ~20um in K), K+ bleeding orange but no crystals and soon entirely clear, irregular prosoplect. hyphae `3-4um wide gelatinized; medulla white, thick, solid, K~y C~p KC+p UV- KUV~y P+y slow but relatively strong I-, densely intricate and densely gray-crystalline hyphae 3-4um wide; apothecia black, convex, marginless? from start or very indistinct rim, shiny, developing on surface but thin and broadly attached; algae cont. and even; epihymenium bright green-black, POL- but very dark, K+ greener and clear; hymenium ~50um, clear; subhymenium up to 75um+ hyaline, gelatinized mostly vertical-radiating hyphae; hypothecium dark blackish to faintly brownish; exciple not seen; paraphyses branched, ~2um below to ~4-5um clavate ~pigment-capped tips; asci ~30-35x12um, lecanora-type or with somewhat darker tube walls; spores 8 per ascus, hyaline, simple, oblong-ellipsoid, ~8x3.5um
