Notes: thallus areolate to rimose-areolate near margin, grayish to yellowish, marginal areoles tiny and sublobate, prothallus dark and conspicuous; cortex ~20um, brown-granular, paraplect. but indistinct from granules, POL+, K+ norstictic crystals; medulla white, K+ norstictic crystals P+y/o strong UV- I-; apothecia briefly immersed, soon sessile, black, becoming large and convex toward center; rim concolorous, thin, smooth; epihymenium bright dark blue; hymenium ~50um, hyaline; hypothecium pale yellowish brownish, POL+ strong, K+ norstictic crystals; exciple dark green-blue-brown edge, pale yellowish-brownish inside, POL+, K+ norstictic inside, I-, composed of thick gelatinized radiating hyphae; paraphyses swollen at tip to ~5um, pigmented at tip; asci lecanora-type with broad canal and thick I- wall; spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, ~8-10x4-5um; TLC norstictic only (JPH plate 32.08 on 20171027)
