steep N slope just below rim of sandstone mesa with pinyon-juniper woodland

thallus medium gray, epruinose, areolate; areoles ~rounded, ~convex, gomphate, black below; cortex very thin, brown, less than 20um, indistinct; algae filling most of thallus; medulla absent or black at the base in places; perithecia immersed, few per areole, black tip showing, to 400um wide; involucrellum only near top, less than halfway to base of perithecia, not closely appressed, clearly separate from exciple which eventually independently darkens above; spores (17)20.0-[22.7]-25.4(27)x(12)12.6-[13.3]-14um Q=(1.3)1.5-[1.7]-1.9(2.2) N=20; conidia slightly curved, (7)8-10um
