thallus areolate, ~continuous, no prothallus or hypothallus at edge or between areoles; areoles strong convex, pale grayish, hydrophilic; cortex K+y C- KC~ UV- KUV+y P~y weak; medulla K- C- KC- UV- KUV- P- I- (multiple places including below apothecia); apothecia briefly immersed, soon sessile, rim becoming excluded, rarely with thalline remnants when very young only; exciple dispersa-type with faint aeruginose pigment near top and perhaps in epihymenium; hymenium ~80um, clear; hypothecium deep red-brown; spores 8 per ascus, 1-septate, brown, weakly constricted at maturity, faintly textured?, buellia-type, ~12-16x7.5-8um; conidia bacilliform, ~4.5-6x1.2um
