open granite ridge with scattered groves of _Abies magnifica_ and _Pinus jeffreyi_
bark near base of old _Pinus jeffreyi_
thallus pale green in shade to dark olive-brown, areolate, K~reddish? (but no crystals in water mount even with clean K and waiting several minutes) C- KC- UV- P+y; areoles lump, scattered to aggregated; apothecia starting adnate becoming stipitate, lecideine, pale reddish in shade and young to dark red-brown to almost black, scattered to becoming clustered; epihymenium forest green to dark brown from pigmented paraphyses tips, fading in K; hymenium clear, ~60um; hypothecium hyaline, plunging deep below center of hymenium; exciple dark outside to pale or hyaline inside; algae throughout below apothecium except where hypothecium plunges; cortex indistinctly delimited; asci distinctly lecanora-type with thick thollus and relatively thin but even axial canal piercing all the way through; spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, simple, ~7-13x4um; pycnidia black, semisuperficial; conidia bacilliform, ~3-4x1.5um
