thallus thick, strongly subglobose bullate areolate, pale grayish, K+y C- KC+y/o turning a little bit oranger UV-; medulla white, thick, K- C- KC- UV-; areoles very thick, scattered to clustered, ~shiny; prothallus white, fibrous; apothecia black, initially immersed, becoming strongly stipitate; margin thalline thick, becoming black from inside out, shiny, persistent, eventually becoming excluded; disk black, flat to strongly convex; epihymenium green-black, granules mostly obscured by pigment, becoming brighter green and clear in K; hymenium ~70um, clear; amphithecium filled with fine and coarse POL+ granules, a few coarse granules not clearing in K; cortex filled with brown POL+ granules, ~40um on top to ~50um below; spores 8 per ascus, 11-15(16.5)x6.5-7.5(8)um Q=1.5-2.1(2.5) N=10, distinct walls; pycnidia immersed with conspicuous shiny black ostiole; conidia curved, 15-22um depending on how curved; TLC atranorin + psoromic + zeorin (JPH plate 59.16 solvent C on 20180709)
