thallus thick, strongly subglobose bullate areolate, pale grayish, K+y C- KC+y/o slowly becoming strong UV-; medulla white, thick, K- C- KC- UV-; areoles very thick, scattered to clustered, ~shiny; prothallus scant, white, fibrous; apothecia black, initially immersed, becoming strongly stipitate; margin thalline thick, becoming black from inside out, shiny, becoming completely excluded; disk black, becoming strongly convex and dull; epihymenium green-black, no granules apparent, becoming brighter green and clear in K; hymenium ~70um, clear; amphithecium filled with fine and coarse POL+ granules, coarse granules not clearing in K; cortex filled with brown POL+ granules, ~30um on top to ~60um below; spores 8 per ascus, 12.5-16(17.5)x6.5-7.5(8) Q=(1.6)1.7-2.2(2.3) N=10, distinct walls (0.7um); pycnidia immersed with conspicuous shiny black ostiole; conidia curved to sigmoid, 15-22um; TLC atranorin + psoromic + zeorin (JPH plate 59.14 solvent C on 20180709)
