thallus thick, strongly subglobose bullate areolate, pale grayish, K+y C- KC+y/o slowly becoming strong UV-; medulla white, thick, K- C- KC- UV-; areoles very thick, scattered to clustered, ~shiny; prothallus white, fibrous; apothecia black, initially immersed, becoming strongly stipitate; margin thalline thick, becoming black from inside out, shiny, becoming completely excluded; disk black, becoming strongly convex and dull; epihymenium aeruginose-black, no granules apparent, becoming brighter green and clear in K; hymenium ~70um, clear; amphithecium filled with fine and coarse POL+ granules, coarse granules not clearing in K; cortex filled with brown POL+ granules, ~30um on top to ~45um below; spores 8 per ascus,(12.5)13-16(17)x7-8um Q=1.7-2.2(2.3) N=10, distinct walls; pycnidia immersed with conspicuous shiny black ostiole; conidia curved to sigmoid, (15)17-18(21)um; TLC atranorin + psoromic + zeorin (JPH plate 59.13 solvent C on 20180709)
