thallus areolate; areoles subsquamulose-gomphate, strongly and deeply cracked, pale grayish at top of cortex, dark gray-black-brown in cracks; cortex paraplect, cells globose ~7-8um, uppermost cells dark-pigmented on top, ~50um with ~25um epinecral layer, upper part POL+, all C- in section with fresh vigorous C; algal layer even and continuous; medulla weakly POL+; apothecia dark, strongly verrucose; epihymenium red-brown; hymenium ~!00um; hypothecium ~35um; paraphyses ~2.5um wide near base; spores ~3.5-4.5x1.5-2um
