thallus grayish, verruculose, fairly well-developed; apothecia ~0.3-0.9mm, dark red-brown to black, rim mostly thin and entire but somewhat variable and almost excluded in oldest; hymenium ~50-55um; amphithecial cortex to ~40um below, distinct, weakly brown-granular; spores ~8-10x3.5um
