Habitat: Steep grassy slopes; above the wooded zone but most abundant along east-facing sides of lava trenches just below the beginning of the inversion layer; occurring on fixed boulders

Notes: Forming luxurious continuous carpets over the rock, with small amounts of S. weberi; Type collection; Lichenes Exsiccati no. 645., distributed by the University of Colorado Museum, Boulder; Mycotaxon 27:494-495. 1986.
