orange lichen
Fruticulose modification. Under local condition the squamules become luxuriant and stipitate-branched. During the process the interstices between stipes fill with soil washing in from above; as the thalli become larger and the stipes shrink, the soil washes away leaving distinctly fruticulose thalli, which are very fragile and can only be obtained by scraping off with a knife.
