Low ridge of horizontal or very slightly sloping outcrops of friable, white, poorly cemented sandstone of the Dakota Formation. Forming patches of indistinct, always decorticate areolae which have been severely wind-scoured. At least three other genera, incl. Acarospora, Aspicilia, and Rinodina are similarly affected here and become very difficult to distinguish, even from each other, without analysis!
