Taxon: Xanthoria fallax (Hepp ex Arnold) Arnold
Identification Qualifier: sens. latiss
Family: Teloschistaceae
Show Determination History
Collector: W. A Weber   354
Date: 1970-04-24
Verbatim Date: 1970-4-24
Locality: U.S.A., Texas, Grimes, Between Roans Prairie and Shiro, on Navasota-Huntsville road.
Habitat: Quercus stellata woodlands; extremely abundant on Quercus in dusty roadside sites and in urban areas.
Notes: This probably merits segratation from X. fallax on grounds of its distinctly narrower lobes, radiate growth pattern and distinct unbroken ramifications. It is the "Teloschistes lychneus f. laciniosa" of Tuckerman, Synopsis N. Amer. Lich. 1: 51. 1882, at least as to the Texas collection of Wright. Monographic study may reveal an available name for it.
