TYPE. UNITED STATES. Massachusetts, New Bedford, on Ochrolechia tartarea, 1868, H. Willey s.n. (US 00068013, lectotype designated by J. Hafellner 1977).

Description. Life form. Lichenicolous fungus.

Thallus absent; photobiont absent. Ascomata lecideine apothecia, 0.2-0.5 mm daim.; disk black; margin black, prominent, strongly rugulose. Exciple reddish brown, pseudoparenchymatous; hymenium hyaline, 50-65 μm, hemiamyloid; hypothecium dark brown. Paraphyses septate, mostly thin, 1.5-2 µm wide; tips expanded, 2-3 µm wide. Asci broadly cylindrical to subclavate, 8-spored, 48-60 × 14-20 µm, with euamyloid apical cap. Ascospores hyaline to brown, 3-5-septate, walls thin, 12-19 x 5-7 μm.

Substrate and Habitat. Lichenicolous on Ochrolechia species over rocks, trees or moss.

Distribution. Eastern North America, Iceland, Korea and Eurasia; in North Carolina found in the Blue Ridge ecoregion.
