The species is distinguished by uniform grey-brown, thin, continuous, cracked thallus, the large, semi-immersed perithecia 0.3 – 0.5 mm diam., brown-blackish exciple, involucrellum covering the upper half of the exciple, small, broadly ellipsoid to subglobose ascospores (10–14×7–10 μm). New to Russia and the Caucasus. The species is distributed in Europe, Asia, Greenland and South America. The nearest record is from Iran (Sohrabi & Alstrup 2007).
