Thallus thin or quite thin but warty-uneven, whitish gray. Perithecia nearly entirely immersed in either the thallus or the substratum with only the tip showing, black, 0.2 mm broad; exciple dark above, slightly paler below, lacking involucrellum, gelatin I—; spores hyaline, elongate-ellipsoid, persistently simple to becoming 1-septate, 16-25 X 7-8 µm.
This species grows on soil in calcareous habitats. It is known from northern Finland and Sweden, Franz Josefs Fiord in northeastern Greenland and Eskimo Lakes, Northwest Territories. So inconspicuous a plant is very likely to be overlooked.
