Thallus very inconspicuous, areolate, areolae to 0.3 mm broad, thin, scattered or contiguous, irregular, angular, flat, rough, brown; paler margins slightly raised. Apothecia small, to 0.35 mm broad; base constricted; margin brown, entire, persistent; disk black, scabrid, flat to convex; amphithecium with thin cortex 15 μm thick, exterior brown, interior pale; hypothecium brownish; epihymenium blue; hymenium 65 μm, upper part emerald-green; paraphyses coherent, thin, tips not thickened; spores ellipsoid, 14-15 x 7-9 μm.

This species grows on calcareous rocks. It is a rare arctic species known from Greenland, Baffin Island, and Alaska.
